Families invited to museum's historic tile event
02 Feb 2012

Elmbridge Museum, located in Church Street, Weybridge, is hosting a Family Fun event entitled “Patterns from the Palace” from 2pm to 4.30pm on February 11.

Children and their parents are being given the chance to learn more about “a crucial part of British history” at Elmbridge Museum later this month.

The museum, located in Church Street, Weybridge, is hosting a Family Fun event entitled “Patterns from the Palace” from 2pm to 4.30pm on February 11.

Visitors will be able to find out how the floor tiles of Chertsey Abbey ended up in the foundations of Henry VIII’s royal palace at Oatlands.

They will also learn a print-making technique to create their own medieval tile designs.

Jan Fuller is elmbridge Borough Council’s portfolio holder for leisure and cultural services.

“This event offers the chance to learn a bit more about a crucial part of British history – the dissolution of monasteries under the reign of Henry VIII – by looking at how some of the materials found in religious establishments was disseminated to be incorporated in other historical landmarks,” she said.

“This promises to be a fascinating day for local families.”

Children must be accompanied by an adult, while a charge of £1.50 per child applies.
