Schools across the borough look set to be disrupted by strike action later this week.

Members of the National Union of Teachers and the Association of Teachers and Lecturers are due to walk out on Thursday (June 30).

At the moment, the strike action will affect a total of 21 schools in Elmbridge, with some set to be fully closed and others partially closed.

Bell Farm Junior School in Walton has already sent a letter to parents to say that five classes will be closed on the day.

These are 3FW, 3HG, 4BJ, 5KW and the class for year 6 pupils who are not on the Isle of Wight residential.

All other classes will be open as usual.

At Cleves School in Weybridge, children in 3MG, 3R, 4F, 6D, 6R and 6S are being told to come to school as normal.

For all other children, the school will be closed.

Esher Church of England High School, meanwhile, will be closed to years 8 and nine but open to years 7 and 10.

The unions are fighting against government plans to make changes to teachers’ pensions.

They claim that the changes will result in teachers working longer, paying more and getting less when they retire.

Education Secretary Michael Gove has said that schools should make every effort to remain open to minimise inconvenience.
