Cold snap hits local football and rugby fixtures

The cold snap hit a whole host of local sporting fixtures over the weekend, with football matches involving Metropolitan Police FC, Walton & Hersham, Walton Casuals and Molesey FC, as well as rugby matches involving Esher and Cobham called off.



The cold snap hit a whole host of sporting fixtures involving teams from Elmbridge over the weekend.

In football, Metropolitan Police FC’s Ryman League Premier Division match at Tooting and Mitcham United on Friday (February 3) was postponed.

The Blues’ next league game is this Saturday (February 11), when they take on Canvey Island at Imber Court.

In Ryman League Division 1 South, meanwhile, Walton & Hersham’s clash with Hythe Town at Stompond Lane on Saturday (February 4) was called off due to a frozen pitch.

Local rivals Walton Casuals’ game at Folkestone on the same afternoon was also postponed due to a frozen pitch.

Both sides’ next fixtures are scheduled to take place this Saturday, with the Swans facing Dulwich Hamlet away from home and the Casuals taking on Eastbourne Town at the Waterside.

In the Combined Counties League Premier Division, Molesey FC’s match against South Park at Walton Road on Saturday was called off.

The Moles are scheduled to play Mole Valley SCR at home tomorrow evening (Tuesday), with kick off at 7.45pm.

In rugby, Esher’s Championship clash with London Scottish at Molesey Road on Saturday was postponed due to a frozen pitch.

The two sides will now face eachother this Saturday, with kick off at 2pm.

And in London 1 South, Cobham’s match against Haywards Heath at Old Surbitonians Memorial Ground on Saturday was also cancelled because of a frozen pitch.
