Graeme Purdy netted a hat-trick as Walton & Hersham beat Lingfield in the third round of the Surrey Senior Cup at Stompond Lane last night (Tuesday).
The tie had already been postponed twice – due to a frozen pitch on January 17 and then because of a waterlogged pitch a week later.
But the game finally went ahead yesterday and the Swans prevailed to set up a home quarter final against fellow Ryman League Division 1 South outfit Corinthian Casuals.
Their first goal of the evening came from the penalty spot with just nine minutes played.
Adam Francis was brought down in the visitors’ box and up stepped Purdy to give his side the lead from 12 yards.
The hosts doubled their advantage on 36 minutes, as Purdy sent a lob over the Lingfield goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
The forward slotted home his and the Swans’ third on 81 minutes, after being found by Josh Bonnett.
Walton & Hersham’s next match is this Saturday (February 4), when they face Hythe Town in Ryman League Division 1 South.
The match, which is being played at Stompond Lane, will kick off at 3pm.
